The European Technical Approval (E.T.A.) is the most severe product certification now available in the market for post-tensioning systems.
It derives from the Construction Product Directive (CPD) 89/106/EC of the European Union which was issued in order to improve quality of products in the construction sector.
Aim of the CPD is
- define six Essential Requirements (ER) for construction works
- with the use of Interpretative Documents (ID) transform ER to products requirements (PR)
- through special technical guidelines (ETAG) define required performance of products
- to give attestation of conformity and CE marking of products
An ETAG gives indications on how to assess products: post-tensioning systems are fully described in
ETAG013 “Guideline for European technical approval of post-tensioning kits for prestressing of structures (These are commonly called Post-Tensioning Systems)”.
E.T.A. is issued by an authorised Approval Body, member of E.O.T.A. (European Organization for Technical Approvals) after a deep analysis of documents provided and tests carried out over systems according to ETAG013.
