Bridge over the Loing River

published: 02 01 2000
This bridge enables the Nemours North deviation road to cross over the Loing River.

This bridge enables the Nemours North deviation road to cross over the Loing River. The main span, 165,42 m. long, is a radical fan stay cable design, with a reversed V pylon. The stays are made of hot-dip galvanised 7 wires 15.7 mm. diameter strands, protected by external black HDPE sheaths, injected with wax.

Two planes of 9 cables - from 15 up to 28 strands - crossing a double steel saddle, support the suspended deck of 124.7 m. in its length. A total of 37 tonnes of strand has been used for the stays. Stay cables are protected at the deck end by antivandalism steel tubes.

Due to the different loads on each side of the bridge, particular tensioning and adjustment phases have been applied to reach final configuration.

The concrete deck, built in several sections in a precast area and launched on temporary bents and definitive bearings, is 12 m. wide with a depth from 0,28 up to 0,40 m. The pylon is 30 m. high, surmounted by a double steel saddle injected by epoxy-resin after first tensioning phase.

The staycables have been installed by a Tensacciai team, utilising a special threading method to obtain parallel strands in the cable-saddle system.
