Preliminary monitoring and maintenance activities for the structural rehabilitation of "dell’Indiano" bridge

Within the general works for the extra-ordinary maintenance and structural rehabilitation of the "dell’Indiano" bridge, works awarded to the Italian Contractor Impresa Geom. Santalucia Antonio by the Municipality of Florence, Tensacciai has carried out all the preliminary activities related to the monitoring of cable stays.
The Contract has foreseen a preliminary campaign to analyse the corrosion status of the single wires constituting the old stay cables and the determination of the acting forces inside each stay.
Further to this step, it has been carried out the total substitution of the outside protection of the stay cables.
Working activities have been the following:
- removal of the outside polyethylene ducts
- removal of the inner cement grout
- wires protection treatment through the use of preliminary sanding process and passivation with use of epoxy products
- installation of new high density polyethylene ducts, comprising telescopic tubes and anti-vandalism tubes
Further to these activities, since during preliminary test campaign it has been noticed an abnormal tensional status in one of the back stays, one full stay cable has been completely removed and substituted with a Tensacciai 81TSRA15 stay cable made of 81 strands type 15,7 mm diameter.
